Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Regains World’s Fastest Car Title

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

As far as supercars go, the Bugatti Veyron could easily win the title of least attractive.


While that’s a designation open for dispute, no one can argue that the Veyron buries the needle deeper than all others. As of this weekend, the title of World’s Fastest Production Car belongs to the latest version of Bugatti’s hypercar: the Veyron Super Sport.


Previously, the fastest production supercar on the planet was the SSC Ultimate Aero, registering a top speed of 253.81 miles per hour.


With Bugatti test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel at the Super Sport’s helm on Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessian high-speed oval on Saturday, the Ultimate Aero’s record received the ultimate thrashing.



With output from the quad-turbo W16 engine bumped from 1,001 horsepower in the regular Veyron to 1,200 horsepower in the Super Sport, along with an incredible 1,106 pound-feet of twist, the car roared to an average top speed of 267.81 mph, setting the new world record for a production car (and yes, a representative from the Guinness Book of World Records made it official).


The first five production versions of the Super Sport, known as the World Record Edition, are already sold and will feature the same exposed black carbon fiber and orange finish as the record-breaking car.


Sadly, any buyer hoping to duplicate the record will leave the track disappointed, since all models will come electronically limited to only 257.9 miles per hour. I can already hear the complaints.


Keep in mind that limit still smashes the Ultimate Aero’s previous world-record speed. What more could anyone possibly need? As if owning the fastest, most expensive car ever produced isn’t enough, I fully expect some new owner’s only thought will be, “It’s nice, but I just wish it were a little faster…”


The Veyron Super Sport will publicly debut at the Pebble Beach Concours next month.

    I hope soon. This car is supremely ugly, supremely overpowered, and supremely overpriced. It is totally irrelevant to Bugatti history and the kinds of great cars the firm produced.

    Ugly… To some… Overpowered? Not really, as it’s a 4300lb car DESIGNED to be the fastest ******* thing someone with more money then brains can buy. It was meant to be a marketing ploy to bring the Bugatti name back to life, courtesy of Audi, I think. I may be wrong though.
    I would love to own one. Luxurious. Livable. Fast as hell. A luxury coupe you can blow the doors of a Lamborghini, or anything else, for that matter, with. Bravo Audi/Bugatti. You win 😀

    Jgoods, I assume you don’t know much about Bugatti history… you DO know that they started out as a RACING brand, right? Early 20th century? They won several titles and they were usually going toe to toe with Ferrari, BMW, and a host of other “luxury” marques. Try reading some before spouting off at the mouth like a leaking faucet.

    Well boys, fortunately for me. I got to see it in person this weekend and it IS Incredible! Every detail is amazing. The amount of carbon fiber on it was enough to stop me in my tracks.

    An AMS GTR or Evo will obliterate any Veyron and are usable everyday. 0 – 185mph in 7.8 seconds makes the Veyron sound rather slow
