The sales stagnation in the auto industry has long made the subject of different news lately. Even so, throughout this grey landscape, one major segment seems to enjoy a constant positive evolution: small crossovers.
All car makers who decided to give small crossovers a chance – and, of course, who had the finances to invest in this direction – soon came to enjoy the results of their hard work.

Hyundai seems to have finally seen the sense of progress and decided it might worth the pain. After all, it would have been such a pity for the Korean brand, who enjoys plenty of popularity in Europe, to ignore this opportunity.

Long story short, John Krafcik, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, already stated for Edmunds that the segment “is something that we have to look at […] it does seem like there is a lot of action in stuff below RAV4- and Tucson- sized vehicles. A new segment is emerging.”
Before you get too excited on Hyundai’s plans, bear in mind that the same Krafcik said “we don’t have any plans”.

So far, the U.S. market is characterized by Santa Fe and Tucson as the smallest Hyundai cars, leaving no room for the brand to go lower in terms of small offerings. Given the fact that Americans are known to rather prefer small cars, perhaps a crossover packaging will catch their interest.
